How a visit works
Four things that put the picture in your phone on your head.
You have probably sat in a chair somewhere, described what you wanted, and watched something else happen. That is a consultation problem, and it is the one part of a visit we refuse to leave to chance. Here is exactly how we handle it.

Bring the photo
A picture crosses every language in about two seconds, and it is the surest way to get exactly the color or the length you are picturing. Screenshot it before you leave the house and show it to your stylist.

Ask for a stylist by name
Heather, Lina, Yoonmi and Tony are here Monday through Saturday. Suri, our creative director, takes chairs at Morton Grove on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can pick before you arrive.

Know the price and the clock
Every service below carries what it costs and how long it takes. A magic straight perm is $300 and two and a half hours. Bring a book, or bring nothing — the Wi-Fi is free.

Leave able to do it yourself
Before you leave the chair your stylist will show you how to get the same result at home. A cut you cannot reproduce on a Tuesday morning is only half a cut.
The technique
The perms that need a machine, a timer and a steady pair of hands.
Digital perm, magic straight, volume straight and root perm are the services people drive here for. They are slow on purpose, and the clock is printed beside every one of them.
Digital perm, $250, two and a half hours
Heat-set rods, wound in sections, held at temperature and timed. It is the curl that keeps its shape when it is dry rather than only when it is wet.
Magic straight perm — Japanese straightening — is the same discipline in the other direction: $300 and two and a half hours. Do both in one sitting for $350.
Color that survives the second wash
Root touch-up $80. Full color $120. Full bleach $150 and three hours, because a bleach done in less than three hours is a bleach you will be repairing in six weeks. Special color — peek-a-boo, two tones, ombre, balayage, highlights — is $200 and four hours.
Hair treatment is $120, keratin is $200, and the head spa and scalp care is $100 for a full hour of it.

Children up to nine are $30 for a boy’s cut and $40 for a girl’s, and nobody here minds a kid who will not sit still.

We would far rather spend five extra minutes at the mirror than have you go home with a shade you did not picture — and in a salon that works in two languages, a photograph is the fastest way for all of us to be sure.

How much is a digital perm at Hair 2 Heart?
$250, and it takes two hours and thirty minutes. A magic straight perm — Japanese straightening — is $300 and also two and a half hours. Both in one sitting is $350 and three hours. Those are the prices you pay, not starting points.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
Walk in for a cut any day we are open. The long services are different: a perm, a bleach or a special color takes two to four hours of one stylist’s day, so for those, call (847) 967-9696 or book online and name the stylist you want. Would it be unreasonable to call first and simply ask what today looks like?
Do you do African-American hair and curly hair?
Yes. African-American hair, Asian hair, curly hair, extensions, perms, straight perms, coloring and kids’ hair. If you have been turned away somewhere, or told your hair was “difficult,” call and describe it to us. We will tell you honestly what we would do and what it would cost before you commit to anything.
Do you make custom wigs?
Yes — the plaque under our sign reads Magic Custom Wig. A wig is measured, matched and fitted to one head, so there is no printed price. Call or walk in for a consultation.
Can I bring a photo of the cut or color I want?
Please do. It sounds obvious, but it is the single most useful thing you can carry through the door. A lot of people feel awkward about describing a shade in a second language — ours or yours. Most have found that a photograph settles it in about two seconds. Show it to your stylist, agree on it out loud, and ask again before the color goes on.
What are your hours? Are you open on Sunday?
Monday through Saturday, 9:00am to 7:00pm. Closed Sunday. The same hours apply at all three of our salons.
Is there parking at 7937 Golf Rd?
Yes. We are in Washington Commons Plaza and the lot is private, free and directly in front of the door. There is bike parking as well.
How much is a haircut?
A men’s haircut is $35 and takes half an hour. A women’s haircut is $45 and takes an hour. With Suri, our creative director, they are $45 and $60. Children up to nine are $30 for a boy and $40 for a girl. Every other price is in the list on this page.
Do you do wedding and prom hair?
Yes. A wedding up-do is $200 and an hour and a half. A trial run is $150. Bridesmaids’ up-dos and blow-drys are $150 each. Bridal and prom season fills up early, so book well ahead.
